Avengers: Endgame Review by Anne-Marie Nkhoma

Since the beginning of the Avengers franchise, Stan Lee’s Marvel cinematic universe has had a large audience of people from all over the world. Just after his saddening death in November 2018, he managed to capture our hearts one last time in April 2019, with the final film of the Avengers series. The screenplay was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo.
The film is a continuation of Infinity War, in where we follow Thanos’ mission in collecting the infinity stones, to alter the fate of the universe to his will. He is arguably the biggest and boldest enemy the Avengers have ever had to face. The fate of the world was potentially in Thanos’ hands, and with this power he was able to overcome the Avengers and wipe out half of the world’s population.
Follow the remaining Avengers’ lives, with their determination to end Thanos’ plan for world-domination via the Infinity Stones he’s collected. To restore humanity and get their friends back, they travel through time to retrieve the stones, and yet again, save the world. You’ll not only see the main men of the cinematic universe, but there are also scenes from heroes and characters such as Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Spiderman, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Bucky, Loki, and Antman.
As short as the plot sounds, the film is in fact 3 hours and 2 minutes long! As well as the intense action scenes the powerful group revisit their past and struggle mentally in the present, adding an emotional side to the film. And even with Lee’s death, it wasn’t a proper Marvel film until Stan Lee potentially made his last cameo in the series.
Although the film had come out this year, the plan for the cinematic universe has been going on for over ten years; it all began with the first movie of the series which was Iron Man, released in 2008. With this movie, the Marvel Cinematic Universe had gained a loyal fanbase. The filming of the actual film began in April 2017.
Overall, this film is a must-watch, regardless of whether or not you haven’t watched the previous films (though it is advised to watch Infinity War or read the reviews). However, some scenes were long when they didn’t need to be, so I give this movie ★★★★/★★★★★.
