Things to do this Winter by Saoirse McKnight Posner

Over winter, when it’s cold and wet, sometimes you find yourself stuck in the house with nothing to
do. Here, I have compiled a list of ideas to consider next time you’re bored these coming months.

  • Going to the cinema is quite a common thing, but to make it more interesting, you could check out an independent cinema that might show independent or old films. Such as the Prince Charles or the Backyard Cinema.
  • If you want to go shopping, in the run up to Christmas, you should head down to Carnaby or Oxford Street as well as Covent Garden for some pretty lights and cool window displays.
  •  There are many  of Christmas Markets to explore. Most famously Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, but also Wintertime in Southbank, Winterville in Clapham Common, Christmas by the River and Christmas in Leister Square.
  • You should also be on the lookout for fairs/ markets/ festivals in your local area as these offer a more unique and personal feel.
  • Another adventure could be Hogwarts in the snow for Harry Potter fans,
  • Perhaps a theme park might be more your cup of tea.
  • You should try ice-skating, either in a permanent rink such as Alexander Palace or Queensway or at some outdoor ones in central London.
  • Visit the sky garden for a free trip to springtime with their beautiful array of plants.
  • Visiting a museum or gallery can be fun ways to do something educational while enjoying yourself. Check out the V&A, The British Museum, National History Museum, Science Museum, The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, Tate Modern or Tate Britain.
  • Always be on the lookout for new exhibitions in London as many are free and worth a look.
  • Winter at Kew Gardens is a magnificent light display that you could see with your family.
  • For Guy Fawkes, go to a firework display and play with some sparklers.
  • For something different to do with your friends, you could go bowling, do an escape room, do karaoke or look for local gigs or theatre shows.
  • For something spooky, go to the London dungeons, or do a ghost walk, even if it’s not scary its still a cool way to see different parts of London at night.
  • If you’re going out for a bite to eat, try the florist in Watford, the ICEBAR or the Cereal Killer Café.
  • For a fun day out, see a ballet-such as the nutcracker over Christmas,
  • See a west end musical- for cheaper tickets you can try sellers in London on the day for last-minute sales.
Hope this gives you some inspiration for the upcoming winter and Christmas season.
