Introduction to the Spring Issue: Inaugural Issue for the New Team

St Michael's Catholic Grammar School

Hi all,

After a long break and a plethora of changes in both our school life and the world as we previously knew it, Purple Ink is back with new editors, new columnists and a fresh take on life in a time where it seems ever-more precious.

It is an understatement to say that Covid-19 has shaped the world around us, yet it has, in a variety of both negative and positive ways, and whilst we remain at home and writing from the comfort of our bedrooms, the Head Team of 2020 wanted to keep some normality in life for the purples and sixth form alike, and so we revamped Purple Ink and made it our own, introducing new themes and a layout which we hope makes the magazine more personalised, interesting and varied in a time where time seems to be standing eerily still.

This issue we introduce our new writers, who have worked hard to produce articles unique to their stylistic talents and passions; they explore a myriad of topics from conversion therapy and mental health to LGBT rights and the problem of monolingualism for UK citizens.  As well as this, they have researched the depth and breadth of worldly issues from our home in London all the way to Brazil, South Korea and more.  And if amongst the variation of shorter and longer articles you struggle to find something you like, delve into the short stories or a handy list of interesting films and documentaries to make self-isolation a little more thrilling.  There truly is something for everyone!

We worked really hard to bring this issue to you without being able to publicise it in assemblies and notes in registers, so we would really appreciate it if you share this with others and take a moment to read an article, story, or review; you could find a new favourite, or unlock an interest you never knew you had.

Stay updated on the Head Team Instagram for more issues in the future, and stay safe during these troubling times!
