Change - Annabel Van Grenen 9S - Autumn Competition 2018

Changing yourself is a challenge, and we are all faced with challenges in life. We are going into autumn and everything around us is changing. The colors are changing from a vibrant bright green to a warm golden brown. The temperature has dropped and now we are rummaging through the forgotten box of our winter things in the corner of your room to find our hats and gloves so we don’t get cold when we’re walking to school. We are saying goodbye to the green leaves above our heads and we must get used to the sound of the crunch of fallen leaves below our feet. We must say goodbye to warm summery days of sitting and chatting to friends with an ice cream that you‘ve got all over you and we must say hello to hats, scarves, gloves and hot tea after walking for the whole day in the deserted park. We must learn to say goodbye to our former self and say hello to the new person we will become.

Change, can be something scary. Something frightening that you’ve never known before. Change can be a fear the unknown. Change can be terrifying, but not all change is bad. Some changes may seem bad but turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Change, is in the past and it shapes our future. Change is no stranger to us but change seems to get bigger every time it comes, like a shadow stepping closer and closer towards you and you feel as if you’re up against a wall but it turns out it was just new hopes and dreams making their way towards you. We must not let change control us, but we must let it change us. Change is not a bad thing; you just have to look a little deeper to see the good in it. You need to realize it, because it is there; happiness hopes and dreams just waiting for you to take hold of them. And suddenly something that seemed quite daunting before is now something beautiful, and new.
