Lion King Review by Anne-Marie Nkhoma

Ever since 1994, Disney has enchanted its fans with a fascinating tale about love, growing up, betrayal, death and lions. The animation is almost lifelike, and the screenplay is almost identical to the original- it feels like you’ve been transported into an actual animal kingdom.
The lion king was written by Jon Favreau and even directed by him, along with Jeffrey Silver and Karen Gilchrist. What makes this version of the Lion King different aside from the animation is the famous cast it has. The voices of Beyoncé, Childish Gambino, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner were used. Not only this, but the music for the film was composed by Hans Zimmer.
The film is centred around the lions of Pride Rock, specifically its leader (Mufasa) and his son (Simba). Because Mufasa is in charge and his son was going to take over after him, Mufasa’s brother, Scar, is envious of both lions. He’s so full of envy that he’d even betray his own family to lead Pride Rock.
The lion king had grossed a total of $1.3 billion worldwide and had only cost $200 million to make. It has now surpassed Frozen and has become the highest grossing animated film of all time.
Another reason this version of The Lion King is different is because it has an album called The Gift, with some songs that weren’t included in the film. The album is 54 minutes long and contains songs from Jay-Z, Burna Boy, Jessie Reyez, Tierra Whack and of course, Beyoncé and Childish Gambino.
If you’ve watched the original Lion King, there is a high chance you’ll enjoy this beautifully executed remake. I’d give this film ★★★★★/★★★ because the animation makes the film more modern and exciting, and they even stuck to the storyline that millions of people adore so much.
