8 TV Shows/Movies to Binge During Quarantine by Ayla Di Biasio

Glee (2009-2016)

Stream: Netflix, Amazon Prime video

Genre: Musical/Comedy

When a high school Spanish teacher with a passion for music starts a high school glee club he has to deal with the menacing Sue Sylvester, local show-choir competition and high school bullies. It’s a light-hearted and humorous TV show that also talks about mental health awareness and important social issues like LGBT rights, marriage equality, racism and disability discrimination.

IT (2017)

Stream: Netflix

Genre: Thriller

IT is about a group of kids who are haunted by a shape-shifting clown that murders residents of their town. IT has a great cast (notable names: Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Bill Skasgard) and thrilling jump scares contrasted with beautiful scenes showing friendship between the Losers club. Honestly one of my favourite movies that made me cry, scream and laugh.

Grayson’s Art Club (2020)

Stream: All 4

Genre: Art

Grayson Perry is an English contemporary artist, writer and broadcaster who is currently hosting an art club TV show for amateur and professional artists to submit work to and weekly celebrity guest appearances. My art teacher suggested I watch this film and I found it funny and entertaining.

Atypical (2017-continuing)

Stream: Netflix

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Atypical is a Netflix original series told from the point of view of Sam Gardener who is an 18-year-old with autism. It shows us what dating is like for him, his family and other people on the spectrum. It has some great writing and is a really eye-opening series.

Instant Influencer

Stream: YouTube (free)

Genre: Reality TV/Competition

Instant Influencer is a reality TV show hosted by James Charles. I watched the first few episodes not expecting much; but I was surprised. It is a suspenseful makeup competition with 6 contestants, with one eliminated every week. I have no interest in makeup, however I still found this free series interesting and inspiring.

Tiger King: murder, mayhem and madness

Stream: Netflix

Genre: Crime Documentary

Tiger King is a Netflix original docu-series that follows Joe Exotic- one of the largest exotic animal collectors in the USA and his feud with Big Cat Rescue activist: Carole Baskin. This documentary has opened up a debate on the laws and restrictions of exotic animal breeding and re-surfaced a lot of theories as to whether Carole Baskin murdered her husband… It’s a very entertaining and exciting documentary that takes a lot of twists and turns whilst telling the story of the Joe Exotic/Carole Baskin feud.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Stream: Disney+, Amazon Prime Video

Genre: Sci-Fi/Action

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favourite marvel movies. It has fascinating characters, exciting fight scenes and good humour. It is intertwined in the timeline in the Avenger’s universe but you don’t need knowledge of the rest of the 21 films to understand the plot fully so it’s a good movie to watch if you're new to marvel movies.

Modern Family

Stream: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video

Genre: American Sitcom

Modern Family is one of my favourite sitcoms of all time. It follows the lives of the Pritchetts, Dunphys and Tuckers. They are 3, all-related families with troublesome kids and spontaneous partners who always manage to get themselves into funny and ridiculous situations.
